LIVE RIGHT - DIE RIGHT!

Elder D.E. Haymon

"And herein do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men." (Act 24:16)

One of our older saints called me today.   She now lives in another city, but I was on her mind, as she had a dream about me the night before last, in it I had died!   Naturally then, her first words to me were, "Oh!   How good to hear your voice!"   Through her tears she told me of her love and deep respect for me and the years she spent under my ministry.

Well! Who like to be thought of - or even dreamed of - as dead?   Oh yes, she had to "encourage" me further by telling me how so many of her dreams have prophetic undertones.   So, maybe the next time we meet will be in the glory land!   I'm feeling quite well, thank you.   But, I live with the sure knowledge that "tomorrow may mean goodbye."   In many ways my life has been rather plain, having stayed as pastor of one church all my life.   In other ways, I've lived quite an exciting life.   I'm thankful that I have had the opportunity to know so many wonderful people.   The members of Calvary Apostolic Church are most dear to me.   The beautiful and wonderful truth is that our friendships will just grow dearer in heaven.   My church and family have been a delight to me as well as to many observers from near and far.

Think about yourself, for a moment.   Are you fearful of dying?   He who hasn't thought rationally about his own death is woefully lacking in preparation.   Maybe your financial house is in order.   Perhaps you've thought about the family, how insurance will cover their needs; maybe even the burial place, casket and tombstone.   There are so many things to consider.   But the one thing needful, the one thing "thou lackest," may be the most important thing:   Are you spiritually prepared to meet the Lord?   Are things at peace between you and your loved ones?   I can only imagine the horror of passing from this live with the most essential need unmet: having a clear conscience before man and God.   Don't wait!
