Flatwoods - Part 4

Soon, Dad returned from the dry creek bed where he had earnestly laid out his plight before the Lord. Dad was informed of the invitation return to town. Immediately, he sensed God had already heard and was answering his simple prayer of faith. With the guitar and suitcases stowed in the trunk, they were soon returning to Flatwoods-in a fine automobile! The distance was soon eaten up. Back at the general store, the proprietor seemed rather distressed. "I was going to have someone drive you over to Mrs. DuBoise's home. I didn't intend for you to make that long walk in the sun!"

She then explained that the long building across the road had, indeed, been used as a dance hall. But, as it was no longer in use, they were welcome to use it for revival services! Furthermore, there was a small living quarters built into the rear of the building where they could set up house-keeping. Furthermore still, she accompanied them through her store insisting they take "this item" and "these canned goods" and all they needed-without charging a cent-to get them set up for the revival to follow!

Later, God, who had given my parents their fourth child, a little girl, Elga B., was to perform another major miracle at Flatwoods. The dreaded spinal meningitis swept the community, causing many deaths among its children. And, now this infant became infected. Refusing medical aid, they and the fledgling church, fasted three days for her healing. On the third day, when it looked hopeless for the baby, Mother, moved by her terrible screams of agony, asked Dad if it would be all right to release her to God. As they stood together on the front porch, they committed her to God, submitting their will to His. No sooner had this happened than the baby ceased to cry. Ready to accept her sudden quieting as a sign that God had taken her, they returned to the room to find her completely healed and normal!

Thus, in 1929, did God miraculously open the effectual door for the Church at Flatwoods , Louisiana , which has a healthy congregation and beautiful sanctuary in 1995.
